This file installs on your TV. The phone app can't replace it.
You don't need it for everyday remote control. Install it when you want to cast your phone screen, or when your TV can't share its app list.
Works on Android TV and Google TV running Android 12 or later. Find the Android version in Settings → Device Preferences → About; on Google TV, Settings → System → About.
TVs that don't run Android can't install it, but you can still control them from the phone.
The download address is short enough to type with a TV remote:

It always points to the latest version. You can also open it on a computer and copy the file to a USB drive.
Menu names vary by brand. If the TV asks to allow installs from unknown apps, allow it only for the downloader app or file manager you're using. If your TV doesn't allow installs, stop there; don't bypass its security settings.
1. Install a downloader app from your TV's app store (search for "Downloader"), or use the TV's browser.
2. Enter dl.maaker.cn/yaokong/apk/tv.apk.
3. When the download finishes, open the file and follow the prompts to install.
1. Download the file on a computer and copy it to a USB drive.
2. Plug the drive into the TV and open the file with the TV's file manager.
3. Follow the prompts to allow and install.
For people comfortable with the command line.
1. On the TV, press "Build" 7 times in About to turn on developer options, then turn on USB or network debugging.
2. With the computer on the same network, run adb connect <TV IP>, then adb install tv.apk.
3. Allow debugging when the TV asks. Turn debugging off when you're done.
Open "Just Remote" on the TV. The first time, it asks you to turn on "Display over other apps"; choose "Turn on" with the remote so casts can come to the front by themselves.
Then go back to Just Remote on your phone and search for the TV again. Your phone and TV need to be on the same network.
If you already installed the TV app, install the new file over it to keep your pairings. If the TV says the signature doesn't match, you have an early test build; uninstall it first, then install.
